Why cats are different, and why a dog routine does not work on them
A cat is not a small dog. It does not tolerate noise, waiting or unfamiliar animals in the same way, and it does not recover from a bad experience as quickly. A cat that has one frightening groom will often fight the carrier for years afterwards.
So we do three things differently. We keep the session short and quiet. We never groom a cat in a space where a dog has just been. And we stop when the cat has had enough, even if that means finishing the job on a second visit.
Matting: why it is already bad by the time you can see it
Long-haired cats in Dubai mat faster than owners expect, because air conditioning dries the coat and shedding runs all year rather than in seasons. Mats form underneaththe top coat, close to the skin, in the armpits, on the belly and behind the ears.
By the time you can feel a mat from the outside, it is usually already pulling on the skin. That is genuinely painful, and it is why a matted cat suddenly starts biting when you touch its back. It is not bad temper. It hurts.
If we tell you a coat needs clipping rather than combing out, it is because clipping is the kinder option. Dragging a comb through a mat that is attached to sore skin is not grooming.

Short-haired cats are usually fine every 8 to 12 weeks, mainly for nails, ears and a de-shed. Long-haired cats generally need every 4 to 8 weeks, because mats form faster than home brushing can keep up with.

Cat grooming questions
How much is cat grooming in Dubai?
With us, cat grooming starts at AED 190. A full groom with a lion cut or a full body clip is more, depending on coat length and how matted it is. We confirm the exact price on WhatsApp before we book you in.
My cat hates being handled. Is this going to work?
Usually yes, and more often than owners expect. A cat that panics in a carrier and a car frequently settles far better when the groom happens a few metres from home. We work slowly and we stop if a cat is genuinely distressed. We do not sedate, and we do not force.
Why is my long-haired cat matting even though I brush?
Because most home brushing only reaches the top coat. Mats form underneath, close to the skin, especially in the armpits, on the belly and behind the ears. By the time you can see or feel them from the outside they are usually already pulling on the skin, which is painful.
Can you brush out a badly matted cat instead of shaving?
Sometimes, but not always, and we will be honest with you. Cutting a severe mat out is far kinder and far quicker than dragging a comb through skin that is already sore. If we recommend a clip, it is because that is the humane option, not the fast one.
What is a lion cut and does my cat need one?
A lion cut clips the body short and leaves the head, legs and tail. It is genuinely useful for long-haired cats that mat badly or that struggle in Dubai summers, and it grows back normally. It is not necessary for most short-haired cats.
Do you groom Persians, Himalayans and Maine Coons?
Yes, and these are the breeds that need it most. Persians and Himalayans mat close to the skin and often need regular attention around the face and rear. Maine Coons carry a heavy coat that sheds enormously. For these breeds, grooming is not cosmetic. It is basic care.
